Beautiful medieval castle to set the mood.
Malahide Castle in County Dublin, taken in May, 2013. Only 5.6 miles and 21 minutes from the Dublin International airport. First stop of MANY stunning places in Ireland.
If you read my first blog post, check it out here, you know that going to the London 2012 Olympics with my brother Steven, changed my travel life.
Then came Ireland. Let me be very clear. Steven and I were not looking to travel across the pond again, having spent quite a bit of money on our 2 week trip of a life time in London and Paris.
Being the savvy vacation deal finder that I am, I started looking into Groupon Getaways. Sure, I had used Groupon for small things like restaurant deals or a phone case. But a 6 night stay, in 4 star accommodations, breakfast included, manual rental car, airfare out of Chicago O’Hare airport, for $1099 per person based double occupancy, seemed too good to be true.
So, like anyone concerned about the legitimacy of spending my hard earned money on anything, I did some research. And after reading almost every review, squinting through the fine print, and trusting my gut, I approached Steven, (my travel partner in crime) about this awesome adventure opportunity!
This happened in February, 2013.
And he said yes!!!! with very little convincing. So that day, in the bitter cold of winter in Cincinnati, OH, USA, we booked our trip to Ireland for the first week of May, 2013.
International Kent Sibling Trip #2!
I think it bears repeating that neither of us were planning on going to Ireland, or traveling internationally at all, so soon after the Olympics. Especially because the two trips were only 10 months apart.
But that wasn’t going to stop this travel obsessed 23* year old!
*23 at the time. I’ll be 26 on 12/1/2015 celebrating on my flight home from Rome, Italy with my friend Dana! Stayed tuned for future posts about that trip.
The travel/life lesson to be learned here is to take a risk, find an awesome travel partner, do some diligent research, but ultimately just get you arse to Ireland!
Now get ready for some photos from The Emerald Isle. And reach out to me if you need your own Ireland travel partner.
I’m anxiously awaiting for the chance to get back to the friendliest place I’ve ever visited!
Steven and I tend to take better crazy face pictures, rather than smile and be normal pictures. The people behind us clearly think we are lunatics. But we are underneath the earth on a tour of Doolin Cave, so can you blame us?
While we were in the town of Cobh (spoken “cove”) in County Cork, we toured the Titanic Experience Cobh. This is the dock where the last passengers to board the RMS Titanic were tendered to the unsinkable ship.
Ireland, you will always have a piece of my heart. Thanks a million!
